Soyanggang multipurpose dam which is recorded
as an epochmaking event in the civil engineering
in Korea stands 123 meters high and is 530 meters
long.
This rockfill type dam has a total fill volume
of 9.59 million ton and the installed hydropower
capacity of 200 MW with the reservoir capacity
of 2.9 billion ton. it was completed in 1973 as
the only multipurpose dam existing in the North
Han river basin.
It provides clean water from the Soyang river
which is one of branch in the Han river. It annually
supplies 1,213 million ton of water for irrigation,
municipal and industrial purposes in the metropolitan
area
Flood control pocket of 500 million ton has greatly
contributed to the mitigation of the flood damages
along the lower reaches of thew Han river.
In addition to the annual hydropower energy production
of 353 million kWh, it also contributes to increasing
the power generation in the three downstream power
plants with annual amount of 61 million kWh.
