The dam is located at 150km upstream from the
estuary of the Kum river, and located at 16km
north-eastern direction from the city od Daejeon.
The Kum river which flows into Yellow Sea from
the middle part of the Korean peninsular is 401km
long and has 9,805งด of basin area which is equivalent
to 10% of this country. There ar lots of big cities
including Daejon, Cheongju, Chonju.
At the time of construction these cities were
short of water supply due to the rapidly growing
potentials. It is a concrete and rockfill clombined
type dam with a total fill volume of 1.23 million
ton.
It stands 72 meters high and is 95meters long.
Principal facilities of the dam include a main
dam and reservoir with 1,490 million ton, a reregulation
dam, three saddle dams, a hydropower plant of
90MW, and two water supply systems to the areas
of Daejon and Cheongju.
The project which was completed in 1980 has grestly
contributed to the mitigation of flood inundation
and salinity hazard as well as the sufficient
water supply. |
